WHAT IS OUR PROJECT?
The project is developed in response to the needs of children and youth who attend Caritas daycare centers, senior centers in Trójmiasto and also the handicapped benefiting from the support of the Caritas center. Our project is created for youth and children having difficult backgrounds plus those who cannot afford to travel abroad, thus limiting their opportunities to meet people from other countries.
With a prior life of poverty inflicting social limitations upon the few we have the opportunity to work with, this program thus provide a fresh perspective for participants to discover new cultures, traditions and languages with an ultimate expansion towards a broader personal worldview, public awareness and civil identity. Additionally, the program contribute towards supporting the development for young people to embrace the idea of intercultural dialogue while respecting the diversity of religious, racial and national differentiation. Emphasizing mutual understanding and curiosity while exploring other cultures encouraged them to better get to know about each other.
An overall emphasis focusing on a „Getting to Know” orientation work as well between the ESC volunteers. This involve spending time and getting to understand the perspectives of young people while sharing living facilities with individuals from multiple countries bringing their cultural, linguistic and religious differences into the collective setting. While also force to embrace each other’s contrasting personal habits at times, challenging situations inevitably arose, yet ultimately become a successful, condensed social experiment for integrating life experience when teaching participants about respect for others’ cultures. Thus this became a way towards identifying their differing national histories and even political viewpoints in a positive manner.
